Chobham Museum

Providing a focus for the Chobham community

History

The idea of a Museum for Chobham, to become a focal point for local history within the community, evolved in the late 1990’s. It was set up as a village Millennium project by an enthusiastic group of local residents, opening for the first time in September 2000.

The first exhibition was mainly made up of items that were given and lent to us by Chobham residents and Surrey Heath Museum. Since that time we have accumulated our own collection of artefacts, documents and photographs, and have also displayed collections loaned from various other sources.

Location

The Chobham Museum can be found across the green from Benhams Corner, off Bagshot Road in the village of Chobham.

Parking is not available outside the museum. However the public Chobham Car Park is a short walk (200m) from the museum, with the first hour free. Remember to get a ticket to cover this free hour. Charges for longer stays are displayed alongside the ticket machine.

Opening times on Saturdays and Sundays are 11am to 4pm (from April to October), 11:30am to 3:30pm (from November to March). From May to September the museum is also open on Wednesdays from 2pm to 4pm.

Get Involved – how you can help us

The museum is run entirely by volunteers with a management committee and an enthusiastic band of ‘Minders’ and helpers. who staff the museum during open hours to meet and greet visitors, help with setting up exhibitions and displays, or get involved with research and procurement.

We would be very pleased to hear from anyone who would be interested in any of the following:-

To become a Museum Minder – to staff the museum during opening hours and meet and greet visitors, for a couple of hours every four to six weeks

To assist with setting up displays and exhibitions

To get involved with research and procurement, or creating displays and exhibitions.

To make loans or donations of artefacts, photographs and documents, or to share personal memories about events or life in Chobham as it was.

If so, please contact us by email at:

Also, please use the above email to contact us to arrange group or special visits, or if you wish to donate

Alternatively, you may wish to call in at the museum over any weekend and leave a message with the minder, or contact us through the museum Facebook page.

In all cases, a member of our Committee will get in touch.

Or perhaps you might wish to consider joining us as a Friend of the Museum and become a member of our growing list of Donors. (see details on the the membership page)
